Here’s exactly what I did to reach 1 million views on Pinterest monthly and how you can grow your Pinterest in 2023.

Having a good Pinterest marketing strategy is key to your business growth. If you’re reading this blog post you’re probably getting started with Pinterest or struggling to grow your Pinterest account.

Pinterest is one of the best platforms to start and grow your website traffic. It is beginner friendly and easy to use. When compared to other social media platforms. It is easy to reach a wider audience even when you have few followers or no followers at all.

On other social media platforms, your reach is limited by the number of followers and the virality of your content. There are many social media platforms, but when it comes to growing blog traffic. Pinterest remains one of the best platforms.

What Is Pinterest and How does it Work

In Pinterest’s own words, “Pinterest is a visual discovery engine for finding ideas like recipes, home and style inspiration, and more.”

With Billions of pins on Pinterest, your home feed is filled with ideas that spark inspiration. I use Pinterest for almost every little inspiration, be it planning a trip, saving recipes, styling tips, home decor planning, fashion inspiration, business tips, or even planning my next purchase.

Every idea here is represented by a Pin, which can also have a link back to websites, this makes Pinterest great for driving website traffic and sales.

What Makes Pinterest So Special?

Pinterest is a unique platform. Unlike the other photo-sharing platforms where that have users share photos directly with friends and followers. Pinterest encourages users to curate personal pinboards of existing photos uploaded by friends, other users, and even businesses.

Pinterest pinner uses the platform for inspiration. Try new things, discover new ideas and find DIY, recipes, and plan their purchases.

Pinterest Vs Other Social Media

Unlike other social media platforms, Pinterest is also one of the largest search engines. As I mentioned above. Pinterest is a visual discovery engine. It’s more about discovering the content rather than sharing. This hugely impacts how users interact with the content on the platform.

Pinterest prioritizes link sharing and saving. Whereas the other social media platforms for example say Instagram doesn’t allow you to share links in the posts. The only way you can have a link is on the Instagram page profile. On Pinterest, you can link a pin directly to a website or even to a particular website page.

How to Use Pinterest For Your Business?

Pinterest offers businesses of all sizes a way to market themselves. Whether you own a blog, eCommerce, or service-based business. Pinterest provides a unique way to grow your online presence.

Pinterest is not just a social media platform. It’s a visual search engine. This makes it easy for businesses new or old to expose themselves to their potential customers. Compared to other social media platforms. 55% of shoppers use Pinterest for finding/ utilizing shopping for products.

When I first started on Pinterest I had no idea what exactly to do on Pinterest let alone use Pinterest for my business.

I heard Pinterest was amazing for website traffic and blog growth. Yet, I had no idea how to utilize it or what strategy will help me to grow my Pinterest account.

Today I have more than 9K followers and I gained over 3+ Million impressions, organically.

What does Impression mean on Pinterest?

First, let’s try to understand what counts as Pinterest Impressions or what some people also refer to them as Pinterest views. This number is displayed on your profile page, which represents the number of people who have seen your pins anywhere on Pinterest.

How does it work?

When someone is browsing through Pinterest and one of your pins shows up in their search or their home feed, this will count as a view.

What Does Pinterest Monthly Views Mean?

Your Pinterest monthly views are the number of times your published pins on your Pinterest profile were seen on screen in the last 30 days. That is the number of times someone viewed your pins on Pinterest in their feed, in a board they follow, in search results, etc.

Let’s say for example you have 1 Million monthly views on Pinterest, it means that in the last 30 days there were 1 Million people who have seen your pins.

Now, this number does not include the number of times people have saved your pins or clicked on them to visit your website or your profile.

Your website visits and your Pinterest views are two different things.

How to see Pinterest monthly viewers?

There are two ways you can see Pinterest’s monthly views

Displayed on your profile page

You can also access your Pinterest monthly views from Pinterest analytics, by selecting the overview.

How Many Monthly Views Is Good On Pinterest?

This answer is going to vary. It’s hard to state the exact number of how many monthly views are considered ‘good’. It varies depending on your niche, and your target audience. Also, how enticing and visually pleasing are your pins for your target audience?

Moreover, the more views you have the better. This way you have a higher chance of getting in front of your audience and getting more traffic to your website.

Just to give you an overview. Here is what I noticed in my own Pinterest account.

  • 1000 – 10,000 monthly Pinterest impressions: Here you have just started your Pinterest account. You are just beginning.
  • 10,000 – 50,000 monthly Pinterest impressions: Here you beginning to get some traction. Your audience starts to engage with your pins, increasing the number of saves and you will see some traffic coming in from Pinterest on your website analytics.
  • Over 100,000 monthly Pinterest impressions: Here is where you actually see some measurable results. Your website traffic picks up and you can see what is working for you on Pinterest. You find the type of content is making an impact.

  • Over 1 Million monthly Pinterest impressions:  At this point. I hit my sweet spot. My growth on Pinterest was more predictable and I knew what exact strategies work well for me. If you have reached this point, then you are now more established on the platform.

How To Increase Impressions On Pinterest?

Now that you have an understanding of what are impressions on Pinterest, what monthly impressions mean, and why are they important. Let me drive into how to get more monthly impressions on Pinterest.

Here are 7 key tips that will help you grow on the Pinterest platform:

1. Have a Business account:

This is obvious, yet many businesses miss it. Having a business account unlocks all the future that the platform has to offer.

When you have a business account you can access analytics, run paid ads, manage campaigns, and more.

2. Pin Consistently:

One of the key reasons I was able to grow my Pinterest account to 200,000 impressions within 7 days and 1+ Million Impressions within 2 months was that I was very consistent with my Pinning strategy.

I had a look at my analytics and figured out what was working well for me and doubled it down.

Ideally, I would recommend pinning every day. 10 or more pins a day. Create 3 to 5-pin images for each blog post or product. Pin to different boards.

Pinterest recently rolled out Idea Pins. I found if done right, idea pins have a much larger reach. They make it easy to reach your targeted audience. Gain followers and provide more exposure as a brand.

What are Idea Pins on Pinterest?

Idea Pins are a multi-page canvas to share your ideas. They’re similar to Instagram stories. Unlike Instagram stories that disappear after 24 hours, Idea pins last forever.

You can add up to 20 images per idea pin, which can be in the form of images or videos.

How to schedule Pinterest posts?

Creating content and pinning it every day can be quite draining. I know, I have been there, and maintaining a consistent pinning schedule is easier said than done. I highly recommend using a pin scheduler to free up your time and energy. Use a scheduling app like Tailwind.

3. Optimize Your Profile:

As mentioned before Pinterest is a Visual search engine. If you wish to increase your visibility and get more impressions on your pins. Like any other search engine, you need to optimize it.

Do your research and find keywords for your niche and use those research to optimize your bio, your boards, and even your pins.

One of the ways you can find relevant search keywords is with the Pinterest Business trends tool.

How to Optimize Your Pinterest Profile

Once you have done your keyword research and found relevant keywords for your niche.

  • Have a Profile Picture, and username: utilize this part of Pinterest for your branding so people can find you by your name.
  • Have a profile description: Here is where you can shine as a brand. Tell people what you are, what you do, and why they should follow you and save your pins. Include your top keyword and phases in your descriptions.
  • Add and verify your website domain: having a verified domain name on Pinterest creates more authority and you can have more credibility as a business.
  • Create boards and optimize them with top keywords and phrases relevant to your niche.

4. Create visually appealing pins using Canva:

Having nice cohesive and visually appealing pins is important. Don’t worry you don’t have to be a graphic designer to create eye-catchy pins. You can use Canva. I have created almost all my pins using Canva. It’s easy to use and has so many options. Lots of stock images and a great many fonts.

If you have no idea what to do, Canva has so many Pinterest templates you can just select which you like and customize them to your brand.

If you’re an online business and not using Canva yet, you are missing out. I use it not just to create content for my social media but also graphics on my website.

If you’re just starting out they also have a free plan.

5. Be cohesive with your niche:

One of the key mistakes I see new Pinterest accounts make is they keep changing their niche on Pinterest. One moment they are talking about Jewelry and the next thing they are talking about blogging.

The Pinterest algorithm will work with you once it identifies what your account is about. Once it reads what type of content you create and who is resonating with it. It tries to push your content to other similar audiences who have similar niche interests. This is when the algorithm works with you and not against you. This helps you grow on Pinterest.

But when you keep changing your niche. You’re not only confusing the algorithm. You also confuse your audience. So stick to one niche.

6. Track, Test, and Repeat:

The best way to grow your Pinterest account is to track, test and repeat.

Have a look at your Pinterest analytics, and see which pins are performing the best, the ones that have the most saves, and website clicks.

Don’t even be afraid to try out different pin styles, and change up the fonts, colors, and even your pinning boards. Hypothesize, test, and track everything.

Pinterest marketing strategies that work for one, may or may not work for the other. So it’s best to test what works best for you.

7. Relevant and Worthy Pins:

Create pins that are relevant and worthy to your audience. The goal of any business is to solve a problem. Look at what is your audience struggling with. What are their pain points? Use your pins to answer the questions they have.

If you want your Pinterest account to grow your need to figure out what content will help your audience. Create Pins with information your audience will find very helpful, like infographics, answer to their questions, or entertainment value.

How to Make Money On Pinterest

Pinterest is great for Businesses and influencers who want to monetize their Pinterest profile. Here are five ways you can earn money on Pinterest

  • Start a Blog
  • Ecommerce website
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Become a virtual assistant
  • Pinterest Creator rewards program

Starting a Blog:

One of the best ways to monetize your Pinterest profile is to start a blog.

You can send people to your blog post and earn money by displaying ads on the blog post.

Planning to start a blog? I recommend Bluehost. Get started as low as $4/month using Bluehost

Have an Ecommerce website:

Unlike other social media, Pinterest is a great platform to drive traffic to your eCommerce store. More traffic means more sales.

Use pins to showcase your products and link them to the purchase page. When someone clicks on your pins they are directed to your eCommerce store where they can purchase the product they saw on the pin.

Planning to an eCommerce store? I recommend Shopify: Get started for Free.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a type of business where you earn money when people make purchases from the links you supply.

Another way to monetize your Pinterest views is by using affiliate links with your pins. You can like a pin directly to the affiliate product and make a percentage of the purchase when someone buys. Now, this is a little bit of a grey area. Because you need to make sure you read both Pinterest and your affiliate’s terms and conditions before you start promoting affiliate links directly on your Pinterest profile.

Become a Virtual Assistant

Love Pinterest? Help others manage their Pinterest account.

There are many businesses out there that want to establish their presence on Pinterest but they just don’t have the time to do so.

Being a Virtual Assistant you can help such businesses or influence them to manage their Pinterest account by scheduling pins, creating pins, and even managing their Pinterest ads.

Pinterest Creator Monetization

Pinterest rolls out a new feature that lets creators make money from pins. If you’re a creator. Pinterest currently testing out a creator rewards program. Where they’re rewarding creators who are sharing their passions and ideas. Making ways for them to monetize their content more clearly.

Now, this program is currently in testing and is not widely available yet. If you want to learn more about it check out this article by Pinterest themselves.
